    @rauplan Most definitely it’s a masterpiece! I’ve always loved Propaganda’s “A Secret Wish” album. It’s one of those rare gems in a world of otherwise boring music!

  5. Comment by rauplan

    Who else believes this is an absolute masterpiece? Anyone? Try to find a singer or group with expressive faces nowadays… images that match the music… haunting melodies that stay with you even when the song is over… Hell I’m getting carried away… Propaganda can do that to you!!!

    Definately one of the most progressive bands in the 80´s, and alongside “Duel” which is one of the everlasting pop-songs in general, this one is also one of the greats. Video is just another attempt to be artistycal and obsessed with computers, machinery and cyber-stuff, but that´s one more description of the era of “Star Wars” programme.
    Whatever the case may be, I SIMPLY LOVE THIS SONG!

    @ysterkvisten Thanks for explaining! In dutch we say “ik hoorde de klok luiden, maar wist niet waar de klepel hing”, something like: “i knew there was something, but didn’t knew exactly what”. Not accidently i put their album A Secret Wish in my car cd-player last week. It was one of the first cd’s i bought (after Pink Floyd – Animals en Peter Gabriel – IV), long, long time ago.

    Trevor Horn produced Propaganda and was a part of Art of Noise. Check out all the albums from the ZTT record label (zang tuum tomb) (ztt.com). Trevor also produced Frankie goes to Hollywood.

    why does Youtube post full names of people without there permission and when flagging them they seem to create a new search link instead of deleting it….i’ve seen nice peoples names defamed by this site so becarefull check your own name on google search link it might be used on youtube and if it is they will never take it down !!!

    @EeeScape Yeah I know, I read Bernays. The word propaganda itself has become an instrument of control. Wanna put somebody in a bad light? Accuse them of spreading propaganda. Don’t like a statement? Call it propaganda. Lol.

  35. Comment by EeeScape

    @HelenaXVI That should read “When our…” Not “Then our…”

  36. Comment by EeeScape

    @HelenaXVI

    Today government doesn’t say they use propaganda on their own people…But do say this when talking about enemies of the state or other countries because of its negative connotation.. Then our government lies, deceives or coerces the public they use a new phrase called, “public relations” which is the same thing as propaganda. For ad agencies, it’s called “advertisement.”

  37. Comment by EeeScape

    @HelenaXVI That’s true because partially because he was trying to promote a socialist democracy. But his idea wasn’t to deceive but to try and help others achieve a better world. It wasn’t until later in which propaganda was linked with the Hitler. This stigma will always follow the term propaganda. His idea of the word would have changed today since the world has changed.

  38. Comment by HelenaXVI

    @EeeScape Orwell himself was not intrinsically negative about propaganda. In one of his books he actually stated that “more intelligent propaganda is needed to educate the masses about socialism”. Probably in “Homage to Catalonia”. Oh and this video is propaganda too :)

  39. Comment by HelenaXVI

    All modern business and politics is based on propaganda. Propaganda means you’re doing or saying something not naturally and spontaneously, but to make other people act or think in a certain way without explicitly telling them about it. Even what I’m writing here is propaganda… Sending out an impersonal message to implant something into other people’s heads :) But in this case it’s not a really bad thing… most of the time it is.

    Youtube even does propaganda. They are black elites on this sites, wich filters subjects on Ufo, other topics and give false info.

    I’ve witnessed it !

    Hi. I teach a month long documentary filmmaking course to teenagers and just found your video. I think I will be using it to introduce the three techniques you cover. I will stop it after each section and invite the youth to respond with their own examples of when they have seen the techniques in action. After gaining full understanding of the concept the youth will produce three in camera edited videos of their own design that use each technique.

    What am I leaving out?

  46. Comment by EeeScape

    @mrplow8,

    Except that you are leaving out information in this video when you refer to his video for your source definition. I laughed when I read your statement, “Propaganda doesn’t have to leave out any information or be deceitful.”

    That should be a slogan for Orwell’s warnings.

    People that work for ad agencies always like to diminish their association with this word;also because of its bad history. But it’s ok, since they are just trying to protect their lively hood, as you are.

  47. Comment by mrplow8

    @EeeScape
    I’m using the same definition of “propaganda” as the person who made this video.

  48. Comment by EeeScape

    @mrplow8

    Thus, if you want to say that anyone that is trying to convince people of something is also propaganda, then you are using the word in a very broad sense and trying to make the term seem more benign (less harmful than it really is). It would be like punching my friend in the arm, and then being called a “war monger!” If you work for an ad company, I can understand why you’d want to believe this because they specialize in BS!

  49. Comment by EeeScape

    @mrplow8 First, one of the topics covered in the video is Framing and Bias.Which bias, by nature, is leaving out information from one perspective and highlighting another perspective. 2:05. What’s left out is key

    Secondly, Propaganda is a formalized technique that is used by ad companies, academia or governments and target masses of people (demographics). This is why we don’t yell propaganda when a NY Giants fan is trying to convince his friend his team is better than the Pittsburg Steelers.

  50. Comment by mrplow8

    @EeeScape
    Propaganda doesn’t have to leave out any information or be deceitful. It even explains that in this video. Propaganda is simply trying to convince people of something.
